I was just perusing ebay for engines, because why not, and found this beauty. Which in the description states that MSRP is $138k...whether that’s true or not I don’t know.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Either way, it got me thinking, what is the most expensive stock engine you can buy?
Rules:
Must be from or for a road going production vehicle.
No one off custom builds.
Have fun.

Surely the W16 from the Veyron.

Makes me wonder if anybody has parted out a Veyron yet

I doubt you will find engines much more expensive than an HD diesel engine when I only consider vehicles mortals can buy.

It has to have happened. Those things must get totalled left and right.

I would imagine so, but I can’t seem to find any info on costs

That would imply they get driven though

How can you total a million dollar car?

I’ve seen exotics for sale at insurance auctions for minor body damage. The price of fixing that and the accompanying precipitous drop in resale value make it pretty easy for the cost of repairs to outstrip the value of the car.
Considering most of the people who buy Veyrons do so to show off, they’re bound to end up with serious structural damage thanks to a tree.
Or a pelican.

Reads: Must be from a road going production vehicle.
Scraps plans to post a really huge engine with 1,820 litres per cylinder and lots of cylinders.

Remember that guy that drove into the water and blamed a bird? Wonder what happened to that ....

If for some reason, you were to find one without its home.

Interestingly, an actual Formula 1 engine produced in quantity (the Cosworth DFV) can sometimes be had for less than that. Rebuilt, obviously, but even so.

Those engines rebuild costs are on the order of 30-80k

HMMMM, tough one. I just googled it and came across your OLD post when I searched ‘expensive automobile engine.’ A few years back when a Carrera GT was totaled the trans sold for over 100k without clutch pack. The engine was listed and sold for over 200k. I don’t recall the exact numbers but those are pretty close. A Porsche 4cam engine complete would sell for anywhere from 250-600k but many factors come with that. Williams F1 built and is building engines for Singer now, that option is somewhere around 500k. As for current cars, that’s a bit of a tough one. A Rolls Swept tail, Zonda, Koenigsegg I would think to be among the most expensive. As for the Bugatti, I’m sure is very expensive but the amount that are built I doubt they are as expensive as a more one off or limited production vehicle.
